Dry skin is a problem many women (and men) face daily.  So don’t feel alone, you are one of many.  I’m not an expert on dry skin but I have found some things that have been very helpful for me.  I would like to share them with you.

There are many options available for you.  A good moisturizer is essential.  I prefer one that my skin will “drink” instead of an oily one.  The oily ones look and feel like they only lay on the skin – not really giving me any relief at all.  Most drug stores have a good selection of moisturizers.  Bath and body shops are excellent for finding what would work best for you.  They carry soaps, lotions and face moisturizers that work for any skin type.

I find Aloe Vera is excellent for many skin problems.  I use it not only for dry – scaly and rough skin but for sunburns and insect bites as well.  If you have a plant gently pull a leaf from the plant. I cut one side of the leaf and remove the “juice” with a butter knife.  Gently rub juice into affected areas.  Health food stores carry Aloe Vera juice if you aren’t blessed with a plant.

A good sun screen is also essential, especially if you spend any time at all in the sun.  With all the studies that have been done on the damage sun does to the skin we can now find lipstick, make up, moisturizers and lip moisturizer with sunscreen added.  That is a definite plus!

I believe drinking plenty of water helps keep the skin hydrated.  Since the body is a large percentage water replenishing it only makes sense to me.  Any way, it seems to help my skin.  It certainly can’t hurt.

If humidity is nonexistent at times – as it is in my part of the country – I use baby oil or mineral oil when I get out of the shower.   Soak cotton balls with either oil.  Before the skin is completely dry – using the oil treated cotton balls – massage feet, legs and arms, paying close attention to knees, elbows and extra dry spots.  Dry, itchy skin disappears.  This makes for a very comfortable nights sleep.

I hope this helps you alleviate your dry skin problem.    If trying home remedies doesn’t help the problem seeing a dermatologist may be wise.
